Crazy Time on the Island

It is TT - hooray!!

The whole island is buzzing with anticipation for the TT - with practice for the racing starting today. Over the weekend, there has been a "Pre-TT" meeting down in Castletown (2 miles away and where we were renting) - something we could hear even from the beach about 4 miles away!

Note the island is already full with all the tourists, spectators and competitors for the TT - but when we went to a local beach on Sunday lunchtime, we were the only people there - my idea of heaven!

This is Port Kenaugh beach, which is 2.5 miles from our house

Since last reporting (sorry, too long ago) we have had some changes made to the garden - with a 20 x 6 foot bed created with boarding around it. I prefer to draw a veil over the construction, but let´s leave it at the work was done by others but ended up having to be supervised by me. We are now in the process of choosing some plants to go in it - with my contribution being 4 colourful fuchsias I got "free" from B&Q (free as the price took another purchase up to a level where I could use a £12 "money-off" voucher). Oh, I almost forgot, as part of the flower bed deal, we ended up with a new hedge inside the road-side fence (no, I didn´t either). I suggested fuchsias for the hedge (common and beautiful as a hedge here), but ended up with some weird Kiwi bushes that look a lot like beech - but aren´t.

Talking of hedgerows, the bluebells came and went very quickly, but now most of the verges are covered with Red Valerian (now accompanied by a white version which I think is called Celtic Valerian).

At the frontr of the house, there are 3 trees on the border between our lawn and the wall at the end of the estate. There is also a 10´wide strip of grass there. The builders are supposed to maintain the area, but have only turned up with a huge mower to cut the grassy bank on the lower part of our road - and apparently ignored our neighbour´s request to replace these 3 trees - which are totally dead (their stakes probably have more chance of shooting, which reminds me of an accidentally grown fence in Brunei, but that is another story).

Anyway, it was logical that we cut the strip at the same time as our lawn, so that is what we have been doing - and now, in that same style of "do it your bloody self", we have replaced two of the dead trees with a pear and an apple - leaving the middle dead zone for a Christmas tree!

G had been wondering whether / when the builders might come and paint the wall. I think we all know what the answer will be in the long run.
